Marcus Cederberg talks to us about his art, answering 10 questions, using the 5 W’s

(Who, What, Where, When, Why).

WHO

Who are you?

Hi, my name is Marcus Cederberg and I am a minimalist photographer from Sweden.

Who are your favourite artists?

There are so many various artists that inspire me, from classic painters to Instagram-photographers, its really hard to pick a few names. I get inspiration as soon as I wake up in the morning!

WHAT

What themes does your art focus on?

My art focus on minimalism, where I try to tell as much as possible with as little as possible. As a regular photographer try to get as much as possible INTO the frame, I do the opposite and work with clean/negative spaces or symmetrical patterns, colors and shadows.

What is your hallmark as an artist?

The simplicity in my works, where a few items per work gives a calming effect, but still awakes a curiosity.

What music or other audio do you listen to while you work?

I used to work as a DJ when I was younger so I listen to a lot of dancemusic, both 80/90-classics and more frequently deep house/techno.

WHEN

When did you decide that art was part of you and your life?

It all started when Instagram and iPhone came, I started to take pictures using my phone and discovered that people liked them. And when Instagram then made me a “selected user” for a couple of weeks leading to many thousands of new followers, it really took off!

WHERE

Where do you work on your artwork?

Some of my works are straight out of the cameraroll and some are heavily edited, I use various softwares for editing on my Mac.

Where would you like to see your artworks exhibited?

My works have been displayed at some of the largest photo events in the world and been exhibited in USA, Europe and in Asia. It’s so cool with an virtual exhibit! I would love to be exhibited at Fotografiska – the Swedish Museum of Photography.

WHY

Why do you make art?

Making art is ver fun and important  hobby for me, having an ordinary full time day job it keeps my creativity alive and kicking.

Why do you think art is important in our society?

Easy! – The earth without “art” is just “eh”…!! We all need to enjoy/explore/dislike art on a regular basis.
